Add an animal in the Animals section using the plus button. Fill in the basic details and the animal appears in your records straight away.
What to fill in
When creating an animal, primary species name and location are required. Enter the scientific or common species name, for example Pogona vitticeps. Herpadex uses it as the main identifier.
In Location, choose the terrarium or rack slot where the animal lives.
Additional fields refine identity and operating records:
- Secondary species name — shown alongside the primary name, for example a local name or subspecies.
- Individual name — the animal's own name; if you do not use one, the species remains the main identity.
- Morph — morphological variant or colour form.
- Sex — Male, Female, or leave it as Unknown.
- Mother and Father — link to another animal in your records.
- Date of birth and Acquisition date.
- Acquisition type — structured selection: Own breeding, Purchase, Exchange, Gift or Other. Optional field.
- Source / from whom — free text, for example a breeder's name or facility. Optional, up to 255 characters.
- Note — anything else you want to keep on record.
- CITES — enable for species with CITES obligations and select category A, B, C or D.
Photo
Add a photo after creating the animal, directly from the animal's profile. On Android you can take a photo in the app or pick one from your gallery; on a computer or in a browser you upload a file from disk.
After adding
The animal immediately gets a unique code for its QR label and the profile is ready for feeding records, health records, weight logs and clutches.
