Racks let you track animals kept in rack systems with fixed slots — for example plastic tubs or drawers. Each slot corresponds to one position in the rack.
What racks are for
Keepers with a larger number of animals often house them in racks with many slots. Herpadex supports this structure directly — each rack has a defined slot grid, and each slot can be occupied or empty.
Adding a rack
Add a rack in the Racks section using the plus button. Enter:
- Name — an identifying name for the rack (required).
- Number of rows — number of horizontal rows in the rack (required).
- Number of columns — number of slots in each row (required). Total capacity = rows × columns.
- Slot width, height, depth — internal dimensions of one slot in centimetres (required).
- Note — any additional information (optional).
Slots are created automatically based on the grid. The number of rows and columns can only be increased after creation — reducing the grid is not possible.
Slot map
The rack profile displays a visual grid of all slots. Each slot shows its code (e.g. A1, A2) and occupancy state — Occupied or Empty. Tapping a slot opens its detail (the slot profile).
Swapping slots
On the rack profile, use the Swap button on a specific slot to exchange its position with another slot in the grid.
Assigning an animal to a slot
Assign an animal to a slot the same way as to a terrarium — when adding the animal or from the animal profile in the Location tab. A rack slot behaves like a terrarium in the animal records.
Deleting and archiving a rack
A rack can be deleted only when there are no active animals placed in it. After confirmation, the rack and its empty slots move to the archive. Archived racks are available to the owner account in the Archive section and can be restored.
