After the release of version 0.2.4, we’re continuing to move forward. The next Herpadex version, 0.2.5, will focus mainly on more detailed tracking of individual animals and better use of their historical data.
The new features will build on information already recorded in Herpadex and will add several areas that currently do not have their own dedicated records.
Shedding records
A dedicated shedding record section will be added to the animal detail.
You will be able to record individual sheds and build a long-term history over time. This means you will no longer need to rely on general notes or separate external records for this important part of an animal’s development.
Shedding records will also become another source of data for the animal’s overall history.
Animal length records
Alongside the existing weight records, we’re also preparing length tracking.
You will be able to record an animal’s measured length over time and monitor how it changes. Together with weight, this will provide a more complete view of growth and long-term development.
General animal events
Not every important event belongs under feeding, health, weight or another specialised record type.
That is why we are adding the ability to record general events for individual animals.
This could include changes in behaviour, mating, checks, observations or any other event that the keeper wants to record.
The aim is to provide a simple place for useful information that is important but does not currently fit naturally into any existing section.
Unified animal timeline
One of the main additions in version 0.2.5 will be a unified animal timeline.
Important events from different areas of Herpadex will be displayed chronologically in one place.
The timeline can bring together, for example:
- feeding,
- health records,
- weight records,
- sheds,
- length measurements,
- placement changes,
- general events.
Instead of moving between several separate tabs, you will be able to review an animal’s development in one chronological overview.
Development charts
Data becomes much more useful when trends and changes can be seen at a glance.
That is why we are also preparing visual charts showing an animal’s development over time.
The first charts will focus mainly on data that Herpadex can track over the long term — especially weight and length.
This will make it easier to see whether an animal is growing steadily, how its measurements are changing over time, or whether there has been a more significant change worth checking.
The next step in Herpadex development
Version 0.2.4 focused mainly on completing and improving the core record-keeping features.
With version 0.2.5, we want to move further — from simply recording information to connecting it and making better use of it.
The goal is for Herpadex not only to be a place where individual records are stored, but to gradually turn those records into a clear picture of each animal’s development.
Work on the new version is already under way. We’ll keep you updated on progress and the release date.
