Herpadex is getting a major update. Over the past few weeks, we’ve focused mainly on making the core breeding records more accurate, clearer and easier to use, including for larger collections.
This time, it’s not about adding just one new module. We’ve reviewed the existing parts of the app, improved how they work, unified the interface and significantly expanded feeding records and health records in particular.
Your existing data will, of course, remain safe and preserved.
Feeding records are becoming much more detailed
One of the biggest changes in the new version is the redesigned feeding system.
Until now, you could record a feeding and later confirm whether the animal accepted the food. You will now also be able to record the amount, unit and size of the food, and later enter how much the animal actually consumed.
Herpadex will now support three common feeding scenarios:
- feeding a single animal,
- feeding the inhabitants of a terrarium or rack slot,
- feeding an entire rack.
For group feedings, Herpadex remembers which animals were part of the feeding at that moment. If an animal is later moved to another terrarium or slot, its older feeding history will remain unchanged.
The same feeding event will also appear correctly in the history of the animal, terrarium, slot and rack, so you can view it from whichever perspective you need.
Unconfirmed feedings will continue to appear among the operational tasks on the dashboard, and Herpadex can also remind you about them with a notification.
Health records now work as a complete case history
Health records have also been significantly redesigned.
A health issue is no longer just a single record containing a date and description. You will now create a health case, to which individual events can gradually be added.
For example, you can keep track of:
- the initial discovery of a problem,
- changes in the animal’s condition,
- veterinary visits,
- medication administration,
- treatment,
- check-ups,
- completion of treatment.
The entire case stays together, creating a clear chronological history from the first sign of a problem through to its resolution.
This is useful not only during long-term treatment, but also when you need to look back at the health history of a particular animal.
Deceased animals will no longer disappear into the archive
We are also changing how deceased animals are handled.
A deceased animal will now remain in the main animal list and will be clearly marked. Its profile, history and other records therefore remain easily accessible.
Once a death is recorded, the animal is no longer counted among your active animals. It also cannot be marked as “For sale” or archived.
If a death was recorded by mistake, it can be cancelled and the animal returned to its normal active state.
You can now record how an animal was acquired
Animal records are also gaining information about the animal’s origin from the breeder’s point of view.
You will be able to record the method of acquisition as well as the source / who the animal came from.
For hatchlings created directly from a clutch, Herpadex will automatically recognise them as your own breeding.
Clearer lists and filters
The animal and terrarium lists have also been updated.
The goal was to bring important information to the forefront and remove visual elements that took up space without helping during everyday use.
Filtering is now consistent across desktop, tablet and mobile. Active filters are clearly visible, and lists are easier to work with even when you have a larger number of records.
We are applying the same approach to rack systems and other overview screens throughout the app.
New help section directly in Herpadex
The app is also getting a dedicated Help section.
It includes articles covering the main areas of Herpadex:
- animals,
- terrariums,
- rack systems,
- feeding,
- health records,
- clutches,
- QR labels,
- notifications,
- settings.
Help will be available directly from the app menu and will continue to grow alongside new Herpadex features.
Mobile web improvements and a more consistent interface
On the mobile web version, we’ve added access to Labels, Archive and Settings, which were previously not available from the mobile menu in the same way as in the other versions of the app.
We have also unified the appearance of dialogs, cards, headers and other interface elements throughout the app. The result is a more compact interface where important information is easier to find.
What happens to your existing records?
You won’t lose anything.
Your existing feeding and health records will be migrated to the new system during the update so that their original meaning and history are preserved.
After the new version is released, you can simply continue where you left off — with more detailed records and new options available.
And we’re not stopping here
The main goal of this update was to complete and unify the core parts of Herpadex that support everyday breeding records.
Once this version is released, we can move on to further features that will continue to expand what Herpadex can do.
